" I made the military a career and did 25 years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Did a lot more remote tours of duty including three in Southeast Asia, and one in Korea.  I did not mention anything about our career field. A lot has changed since you were in it. We went from 273x0 to the 276x0.    Now they have changed that again. They separated space from ground radar. And of course there is AWACS. So everyone became specialist. And for those of us that stayed in radar, we were either at SAGE facilities, BUIC sites, LRRs or in mobile TACS. I managed to avoid mobile TACS, but still spent three tours in Southeast Asia in the TAC environment. Just like in Labrador, where some of us were taken out of ops and worked else where, I spent time working special ops for other agencies working in Laos. Once Viet Nam was over and things settle down, ADC got smaller and smaller with TAC becoming the command on the Future. In 1980, ADC faded away and TAC took over. So every fighter squadron and unit had to become mobile and practice deployments. With the threat of a soviet air attack fading, the Command Staff felt there was no need for so many radar sites and fighter squadrons so they did away with most of them and relied on Air National Guard units to defend America. Now, the National guard is operating all radar facilities and the only active radar techs are in AWACS or mobile units."

Michael, it was a pleasure to hear from you ...thank you very much for your contributions!
